The *Nashville Scene* has run similar coverage of the past two lectures with illicit recordings. But the most entertaining coverage was the [appearance on Theo Von's podcast](https://youtu.be/Yg2fzmNTmUo?si=uhZFoeEzoLMM%5F9iF&t=7946&ref=pamphleteer.co) in which he airs out his thoughts on the event with Candace Owens. Germane to *The Pamphleteer*, he reads a line from my introduction on where Nashville fits in all of this. I thought it good to present that comment in full for those unable to make it, if only to pique your interest and urge you to take advantage of the coupon on offer below. Thiel has been doing these talks across the globe for the past couple of years, and in framing Nashville as his largest, most public showing, I said the following: > From Rome, the birthplace of Western civilization, to San Francisco, its most Western extant, and now to Nashville, the home of the Grand Ole Opry, and in its more bucolic days, the Athens of the South, now otherwise known as Music City soon to be NashVegas. > > One of these is not like the other. > > Nashville is the most globally recognizable city in the Southeast. And the Southeast is one of the last regions in the Western world where sincere Christian belief still thrives. > > So yes, the technological aspects of these lectures make it suitable for the West Coast and the ember of Rome, the eternal city, will always glow. > > But as the country’s center of gravity moves South, Nashville may be the place most accommodating and able to foster a discussion like this, separated as it is from the disembodied imagination of Silicon Valley and absent the historical baggage of Rome. The *Scene's* take on these comments is that I was making "another reference to the local proliferation of personalized Christianities." I don't even know what that means, to be honest. Since then, many people have contacted us and expressed interest in attending the remaining lectures. So, we're [opening up a very limited number of tickets](https://luma.com/e9xtnx6c?ref=pamphleteer.co), available between now and Sunday afternoon. As of now, the measure can move forward if the Election Commission verifies that the petition in relation to the referendum has enough valid signatures. If all hurdles are cleared, the referendum would appear on next year’s ballot, giving Nashville voters the chance to decide the fate of racing at the historic Fairgrounds. “There's not anything that can be said that's going to sway us one way or the other because what we have to do is basically just approve the ballot,” said Commission Chair Dewey Branstetter. The chair went on to explain that the commission’s role is simply "ministerial” before opening up public comment. Jon Cooper, an attorney with Holland & Knight representing Decline to Sign, which opposes the proposed ban on racing at the fairgrounds, acknowledged that the referendum language clearly outlines the ban but questioned the validity of the petition process. “We have multiple examples of canvassers throughout the process misleading voters to get signatures by saying that Metro had already decided to tear down the racetrack and that this is going to get affordable housing in its place,” said Cooper. “I’ve submitted to Mr. Kyle, for the record, approximately one hour of video footage showing multiple instances of these falsehoods.” John Spraggins, a local attorney and president of Care for Nashville, a group supporting the referendum, argued that the video should be stricken from the record. “That’s not really relevant to what this commission is considering today,” he said. Councilmember Olivia Hill raised concerns about voter clarity after being approached four separate times to sign the petition. “Each time I was approached \[they\] said, ‘Hey, would you like affordable housing in Nashville?’ and I said, ‘Sure!’” explained Hill. “And they're like, ‘Just sign this petition.’” “I understand that your duty today is very ministerial in nature, but I do think it's one of the first steps during this entire process where something has been made crystal clear and truthful to the voters of Nashville,” said MNPS School Board member and former Metro Council member Zach Young, reiterating that the referendum would only end auto racing at the fairgrounds. For funsies, Chair Branstetter asked legal counsel what would have happened if the commission had rejected the referendum language. Legal explained that the body would have been required to provide its exact reasoning. “And then we'd end up in Chancery Court on the other end,” said Branstetter, underscoring the justification for the body’s decision. ✰ ✰ ✰ #### HEADLINES - **🚨 Man armed with a gun and knife fatally shot by security at Nashville federal courthouse.** According to officials, an armed man was fatally shot by security personnel at a federal courthouse in Nashville.
