#### A surprise congressional flip, a redemption story in District 9, a shrinking TN House supermajority, and history made with Tennessee’s first female governor—a Republican win, but hardly a landslide.

Senator Marsha Blackburn’s camp certainly had heartburn as the numbers rolled in for the Tennessee gubernatorial race. While Blackburn ultimately pulled out a win over Democratic challenger Jerri Green, the Republican firebrand only stuck the landing with a 2.6-percentage-point margin.

Green's gains appear to come less from a Democratic voter surge, and more from Republican apathy. Compared with 2018, a year with higher turnout, Green won 38,090 more votes than 2018 Democratic nominee Karl Dean. Meanwhile, the Republican vote fell by 378,970 compared to 2018\. Green also topped the 2022 Democratic nominee's vote in all 95 counties. 

When looking at numbers from the 2024 presidential race, Green held on to 85 percent of Kamala Harris's vote, but Blackburn only snagged 49 percent of Donald Trump's. Taken together, these patterns suggest that the shift in vote share was driven less by an influx of new Democratic voters than by Republican voters either staying home or defecting to independent candidate David Hatley.

Meanwhile, Tennessee’s Republican-controlled legislature had their own bitter pill to swallow.

The newly redrawn congressional map, designed to give Republicans an advantage in all nine U.S. House districts, failed to deliver the sweep they had hoped for. Instead, Democratic candidate Victoria Broderick unseated Republican incumbent Scott DesJarlais in the 4th District, flipping the seat blue. Unofficial returns show Broderick ahead by just 280 votes, and the Secretary of State’s office has projected her the winner, though DesJarlais has not conceded. 

The surprise upset was only offset by Republican state Senator Brent Taylor's victory over Democratic state Representative Justin Pearson in District 9, which flipped the historically Democratic seat red. Taylor declared victory, but Pearson declined to concede, [stating](https://tennesseelookout.com/2026/11/04/tennessee-republican-brent-taylor-claims-victory-justin-pearson-does-not-concede-us-house-race/?utm%5Fsource=chatgpt.com) he won't until the official results are in.  
  
Republican lawmakers also watched on as its supermajority in the state House took a hit. Democrats flipped six Republican-held state House seats, which cuts the Republican supermajority to about 69–30\. Republicans still retain majority control of the legislature—no state Senate seats changed hands—but several Republican senators and representatives won by less than four points, exposing vulnerabilities across the state.

#### ✹ TENNESSEE MIDTERM ELECTION RESULTS

Tennessee stayed red last night, but Marsha Blackburn won the governor’s race by the slimmest margin in 130 years. Democrats also flipped six seats in the state House.

- **Governor:** Blackburn (R) beats Green (D) by 2.5 points. Lee won by 32 in 2022.
- **Senate:** Hagerty (R) is re-elected over Bradshaw (D), 55–43.
- **U.S. House:** The 4th and 9th districts are still too close to call.
- **Legislature:** Democrats flip six state House seats. The GOP keeps its supermajorities.
- **Amendments:** All three pass. Davidson was the only county to vote no on two of them.

🐾 **MNPD charges Prashant Pandya with impersonating a veterinarian at Caudle Veterinary Clinic**  
Pandya, 45, of East Nashville, was arrested Tuesday on a felony charge after pet owners reported bad outcomes from procedures on dogs and cats. Police know of at least seven cases between August 2025 and September 2026\. He was never licensed in Tennessee and failed the required exams, but he allegedly went by "Dr. Pandya" and wore a white coat that said "DVM." More charges are expected. 🏛️ **Marsha Blackburn elected Tennessee's first woman governor with about 45% of the vote**  
Blackburn beat Democrat Jerri Green 45% to 43%, an unexpectedly close win on a night when voters across the country shifted left. Conservative independent David Hatley pulled 9.3%, much of it from Blackburn's base. She takes office in January and will appoint her own Senate replacement. Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs, Rep. Tim Burchett and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth are rumored to be the frontrunners. 🔵 **Democrat Victoria Broderick claims narrow upset of Rep. Scott DesJarlais in TN-4**  
Broderick leads 48.87% to 48.73%, a margin of fewer than 300 votes, in a seat DesJarlais has held since 2011, and he had not conceded as of midnight. She lost to him by more than 40 points in 2024, but the redrawn district now takes in part of Nashville. She won only Davidson and Rutherford, 2 of its 11 counties, but they are its two most populous. ⚖️ **Brent Taylor claims TN-9 by about 2,500 votes; Justin Pearson won't concede**  
Taylor won 49.63% in final unofficial counts and declared victory just after 11 p.m. As of midnight the AP hadn't called the race, and Pearson says he'll wait for every ballot to be counted. Republicans redrew the district in May to favor their party: it splits Memphis three ways and stretches into Williamson County. Even so, Pearson came within striking distance of the GOP's least-safe seat in Tennessee. 🐄 **Republican Charlie Hatcher beats Chaz Molder for TN-5**  
Hatcher, a former member of Gov. Bill Lee's administration, beat Columbia Mayor Chaz Molder 51.6% to 46.7%, even though national Democrats poured money into Molder's campaign. Hatcher made it to the general election by beating incumbent Rep. Andy Ogles in the August primary, despite Trump's early endorsement of Ogles. After May's redistricting, the district no longer touches Nashville or either candidate's hometown. 🗳️ **Voters pass all three constitutional amendments on bail, state property tax and victims' rights**  
Each amendment needed about 1.05 million "yes" votes, and each got 1.3 million or more. Judges can now deny bail for serious charges like second-degree murder, carjacking and human trafficking. Before this, only first-degree murder and child rape qualified. The amendments also permanently ban a statewide property tax, which Tennessee hasn't collected since 1949, and add victims' rights, such as being heard at plea, sentencing and parole hearings, to the state constitution.
