Nosferatu (Dir. Robert Eggers; Starring Lily-Rose Depp, Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Willem Dafoe) The director of The Lighthouse and The Northman offers his take on Bram Stoker’s Dracula by way of its classic unauthorized German Expressionist adaptation. We’ll have our full review later this week, but suffice it to say, it’s an engaging, atmospheric ode to the type of classical filmmaking we rarely get anymore. Now playing in theaters and in 35mm at The Belcourt.

A Complete Unknown (Dir. James Mangold; Starring Timothée Chalamet and Elle Fanning) Here’s hoping that the Ford v Ferrari and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director’s Bob Dylan biopic is more like the former. Now playing in theaters. 

Babygirl (Dir. Halina Reijn; Starring Nicole Kidman, Harris Dickinson, Antonio Banderas) A girlboss CEO gets a lesson in control when she begins an affair with a cutthroat upstart who’d make Jordan Peterson proud. Now playing in theaters. Special screening with an in-person Nicole Kidman Q&A on New Year’s Eve at the Belcourt.

The Belcourt’s Holiday Classics As expected, Nashville’s nonprofit cinema brings the Christmas cheer with holiday classics (Love Actually, It’s a Wonderful Life, Die Hard) and some underseen gems like The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and Holiday Affair. 

The Fire Inside (Dir. Rachel Morrison; Starring Ryan Destiny; Brian Tyree Henry) “The inspirational true story of Claressa Shields, arguably the greatest female boxer of all time” who “has to reckon with the fact that not all dreams are created equal, and the real fight has only just begun.” Now playing in theaters. 

Bloody Axe Wound (Dir. Matthew John Lawrence; Starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan) The daughter of a family that peddles snuff films questions the trade in this indie slasher. Now playing at AMC Thoroughbred 20 Regal Hollywood 27 and Opry Mills 20. 

Baby John (Hindi) (Dir. Kalees; Starring Jackie Shroff) A dad who fakes his own death to protect his daughter from a corrupt politician settles his final score. Now playing at Regal Hollywood 27.
