Rogers Anderson
The chief executive of Tennessee’s sixth largest county began his tenure three Spider-Men and a Batmen ago in the days when people considered George W. more than just a globalist peon dabbling in oil paint. As his sixth campaign to maintain the office he’s held since 2002 commences, Anderson has repeatedly touted his small government, individual rights bona fides, even posing with Senator Marsha Blackburn on his campaign’s Facebook page.
Yet, Anderson clearly wants voters to conveniently overlook his feeble endorsement of mask mandates and other safety protocols in the heat of the pandemic. Announcing his mask order in a July 2020 video released two days after Independence Day that more resembles a snuff film than official correspondence from a seasoned leader, Anderson teeters like a nervous hall monitor as he blathers on about the authority Governor Lee bestowed upon him to sell his petty tyranny. To his credit, Anderson was one of the first mayors in Middle Tennessee to lift face-covering restrictions BOTH times he instituted them in the summer and fall of 2020, but he remained silent when Williamson County parents made national news for opposing school mask mandates. Anderson is patently attempting to gaslight voters on his conservative cred. They shouldn’t endorse his callow leadership; neither should our state’s more prominent politicians who claim to value liberty like Blackburn. Williamson County needs a change, and the politicians like Anderson who prostrated themselves to fear mongering for political preservation need to be the first against the wall.
