The Crow (Dir. Rupert Sanders; Starring Bill Skarsgård, FKA twigs) The 90s Goth classic about an undead rockstar seeking vengeance against the gang who killed him and his girlfriend gets a remake that reviews say sends the summer out with a whimper. Now playing in theaters.

Between The Temples (Dir. Nathan Silver; Jason Schwartzman; Carol Kane) A socially awkward cantor at a Brooklyn synagogue learns to live in the moment when his former music teacher asks him to oversee her late-life bat mitzvah in this much-lauded indie crowd pleaser that’s being compared to70s classics like Harold and Maude. Now playing in theaters.

Fitzcarraldo/Burden of Dreams  Werner Herzog’s infamous tale about a rubber baron transporting a steamship over a hill in the Amazon returns to the Belcourt along with Les Blank’s classic documentary on the film’s tumultuous production. Now playing at The Belcourt.

Blink Twice (Dir. Zoë Kravitz; starring Channing Tatum, Naomi Ackie, Christian Slater, Haley Joel Osment). When a Muskish billionaire invites a cocktail waitress to his private island, hedonistic nights give way to a vicious secret. Now playing in theaters.

Strange Darling (Dir. J.T. Mollner; Starring Willa Fitzgerald, Kyle Gallner, Barbara Hershey) A date night gone away may just end a serial killer’s reign in this well reviewed indie thriller. 

The Forge (Dirs. The Kendrick Brothers; Starring Cameron Arnett, Pricilla Shirer) A wayward teenager takes a job at a fitness company and learns to serve the Lord in this spinoff to 2015’s evangelical hit, The War Room. Now playing in theaters.

Stream (Dir. Michael Leavy; Starring Danielle Harris, Tony Todd) Four deranged killers interrupt a family’s vacation when they lock down a hotel and compete for most creative murder. Now playing in theaters.

200% Wolf (Dir. Alexs Stadermann; Starring Samara Weaving) When a boy turns into a werewolf, he must trap a cosmic sprite to restore order in this low-budget animated family comedy. Now playing at AMC Thoroughbred 20 and AMC Murfreesboro 16.

Rowdy Girl (Dir. Jason Goldman) I’d rather shovel manure in the August heat than watch a movie produced by Moby about a cattle farmer who goes vegan. Tuesday at the Belcourt with post-screening discussion with participant Renee King and director/producer Jason Goldman.

Marthui Nagar Subramanyam (Telugu; Dir. Lakshman Karya) “ Subramanyam aka Rao Ramesh is seen as a conventional old-fashioned man who is witty and funny. Subramanyam is caught in the regular hurdles of running a middle-class families while his son goes around claiming that his father is Allu Aravind. This is going to be a funny hook point in the film. Subramanyam?s life changes after he receives surplus money in his bank account without him knowing. What follows this has to be watched on big screens.” Now playing at Regal Hollywood 27.
