Gareth Edwards)The franchise gets back to its horror roots as Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali play mercenaries journeying to the defunct park’s research island to extract some cancer-curing dino DNA. With original *JP* screenwriter David Koepp and *Godzilla*/*Rogue One* director Gareth Edwards mining Michael Crichton’s novel for unexplored story threads, it looks like a worthy successor–even without Jeff Goldblum.

Roberto Minevini) A group of Union soldiers treks out West in 1862 to find themselves at the nexus of the Civil War and the Gold Rush in this Montana-shot hybrid of the war movie and western. *Now playing at The Belcourt* .

[**Action Distraction**](https://www.belcourt.org/events/action/?ref=pamphleteer.co)**:** The Belcourt gets us through the Dog Days of Summer with a roster of 20+ classic action flicks from all over the world. Kicking off this week with *Independence Day*, *Robocop*, and *The Goonies*, the series also includes *Terminator 2: Judgement Day*, *Tombstone*, *Speed*, *Heat*, *John Wick*, and *RRR* among others.

So did the late Robert Altman. To celebrate, Nashville’s arthouse has curated a selection of films shot in Nashville from Harmony Korine’s *Gummo* to the little-seen *Girl from Tobacco Row* to *Ernest Scared Stupid*. The tribute to the 70s film icon features a lineup including *Thieves Like Us*, *The Player*, and *California Split*.
