Black Bag (Dir. Steven Soderbergh; Starring Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender) As if January’s experimental ghost story Presence weren’t enough, indie pioneer Soderbergh plants another flag in 2025’s movie calendar with this sleek spy flick starring Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett as real-life spies George and Kathryn Woodhouse, who try to save their marriage in the wake of treason charges. Reviews have been stunning. Now playing in theaters. 

Novocaine (Dir. Dan Berk; Starring Jack Quaid) A mild-mannered bank teller whose ability not to feel pain turns him into a vigilante when robbers kidnap the girl of his dreams in this well-reviewed action comedy. Now playing in theaters. 

The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie (Dir. Peter Browngardt) WB’s most iconic IP gets the last laugh now that this tale about America’s favorite cartoons fighting off aliens is seeing the light of day after the studio scrapped the finished product after a case of Space Jam remakeitis. Now playing in theaters. 

October 8 (Dir. Wendy Sachs) What a week to release a doc about campus anti-Semitism. Now playing in theaters. 

David Lynch: A Retropective The Belcourt celebrates the life of the surreal indie icon with a career-spanning deep dive into his work that includes Eraserhead and Blue Velvet and a 35mm screening of The Straight Story plus a showing of Lynch’s favorite film, The Wizard of Oz. Sunday at noon finds frequent Lynch collaborator and Nashville resident Alicia Witt talking about her on-set experience with the American master.

Batter Up!  Ring in spring with the Belcourt’s showcase of the best baseball movies of all time from Field of Dreams and Bull Durham to The Natural and Eight Men Out (in 35mm!)

Opus (Dir. Mark Anthony Green; starring Ayo Edebiri and John Malkovich) Reviews have been shockingly bad for A24’s latest horror entry, which focuses on a music journalist traveling to the estate of a dark Willy Wonkaesque pop star. Now playing in theaters. 

The Last Supper (Dir. Mauro Barrelli; Starring Robert Knepper) The latest movie about the last days of Jesus hits just in time for Lent. Now playing in theaters

Every Little Thing (Dir. Sally Aittken) This documentary about a woman caring for hummingbirds on the fringes of L.A. could be the spring’s breakout hit. Now playing at The Belcourt.
