Performative resolution condemns Musk's Boring Company & the Music City Loop

Delishia Porterfield, alongside nine other council members, is asking her colleagues to join in passing a resolution to oppose the Boring Company’s Music City Loop. Not only do the sponsors oppose the underground transit tunnels that will take passengers from downtown to the airport, but they also condemn the company’s “lack of transparency, inadequate community and Metropolitan Council engagement, and troubling labor and safety practices.”
Porterfield acknowledged that the legislation is merely performative. “To be clear, if passed, this resolution doesn’t stop the tunnel,” she posted on Bluesky. “The Metro Council doesn’t have that authority — but it allows us to take a position & let our constituents know that we not only hear them, but share in their concerns.”
The council will weigh in on this privately funded transit solution during its next meeting on December 16. According to the Music City Loop Blog, the company’s first Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) for the Nashville project has already arrived, has been assembled, was lowered into the launch shaft, and will be ready to launch on December 15.
