The Monkey (Dir. Osgood Perkins; Starring Theo James and Adam Scott) The mind behind Longlegs takes on Stephen King’s short story about two brothers plagued by an indestructible monkey toy with the power to kill at random in the most elaborate of ways. Despite the obvious similarities, the movie has a lot more on its mind than paying homage to Final Destination. Now playing in theaters.

The Unbreakable Boy (Dir. Jon Gunn; Starring Zachary Levy and Patricia Heaton) Franklin’s Kingdom Story brings the bestselling memoir about a couple dealing with the trials and tribulations of raising an autistic boy with a genetic brittle bone disease. Ignore Rotten Tomatoes, it’s a sincere movie with lots of wit and depth. Now playing in theaters.

Parthenope (Dir. Paolo Sorrentino; Starring  Celeste Dalla Porta) Italy’s greatest maximalist takes on a coming-of-age tale about a young woman born in the Sea of Naples and her summer romances in A24’s latest. Now playing at AMC Thoroughbred 20.

Cleaner (Dir. Martin Campbell; Starring Daisy Ridley and Clive Owen) When radical activists hold energy company execs hostage in London, it's up to an ex-soldier turned window cleaner (Ridley) to set things right. Now playing in theaters.

Paddington 2 and Punishment Park at Belcourt Midnights Nashville’s nonprofit cinema takes on the prison movie with this one-two punch of a universally adored kids movie featuring Britain’s most famous bear and a speculative 70s fable about Nixon declaring martial law and creating a proto-Hunger Games.

Liza (Dir. Bruce David Klein) An intimate doc profile of Liza Minnelli featuring the Hollywood legend and her frequent collaborators. Playing at the Belcourt as part of Music City Mondays.

Bolly/Tolly/Kolly/Lollywood and Other Special Presentations of Asian and Middle Eastern Imports.
