Sinners (Dir. Ryan Coogler) The Black Panther director takes a Marvel break for this high-budget period possession film featuring Michael B. Jordan and Hailee Steinfeld that finds a small Southern town stalked by unrepentant–seemingly vampiric–evil. Now playing in theaters.

Pride & Prejudice: 20th Anniversary (Dir. Joe Wright) The British Romantic Austen classic with Keira Knighly as Elizabeth Bennett gets a restored release that will make you feel older than you actually are. Now playing in theaters.

The Day the Music Stopped (Dir. Partick Sheehan) A local doc about Chris Cobb, the self-styled messiah of the “Battle of Nashville’s Soul,” who raised a shitton of the money to “save” the EXIT/IN and never answered our questions about his tax exempt status. Part of The Belcourt’s Music City Mondays.  Introduction from director Patrick Sheehan. Post-screening discussion with cast and crew, including Chris Cobb, Alanna Royale, Jeff Syracuse, Patrick Sheehan, Demetria Kalodimos and Stephen Thompson.

The Elephant Man (Dir. David Lynch) The only film missing from the Belcourt’s tribute to the icon gets its due with a new restoration supervised by the late Lynch himself. Now playing at The Belcourt

Play It As It Lays (Dir. Frank Perry) The 1972 adaptation of Joan Didion’s famed novel features Tuesday Weld as a post-breakdown failed model/actress and offers heaps of scathing criticism of Hollywood vapidity. Sunday at The Belcourt

One to One: John & Yoko (Dir. Kevin MacDonald) A deep dive into the year and a half the ex-Beatle spent living in Greenwich Village. Now playing in theaters. 

White Chicks and Smiley Face @ Belcourt Midnights The Wayans Bros. go undercover in 2004’s Paris Hilton-tinged satire while Anna Farris makes her stoner movie debut for 90s indie darling Greg Araki. 

Compensation (Zeinabu irene Davis) “A landmark of independent cinema, COMPENSATION is Zeinabu irene Davis’s moving, ambitious portrait of the struggles of Deaf African Americans and the complexities of loving relationships at the bookends of the 20th century.” Now playing at The Belcourt.

The Ugly Stepsister (Dir. Emily Blitchfeldt) A Norwegian arthouse horror version of Cinderella told from the titular sibling’s POV. Now playing in theaters

Sneaks (Dir. Christopher Jenkins) It’s Toy Story 2 but with anthropomorphic designer sneakers and Martin Lawrence. Now playing in theaters

Gazer (Dir. Ryan J. Sloan) A mother who uses cassette tapes to cope with her faltering memory fights her way out of a conspiracy. Now playing at Regal Hollywood 27

The Wedding Banquet  (Dir. Andrew Ahn) Ang Lee’s indie classic about a green card sham wedding and a gay couple gets a superfluous remake. Now playing in theaters.

The Fabulous Baron Munchausen  (Dir. Karel Zemen) The pioneering Czech animation that goes from the moon to the belly of a whale makes an appearance at The Belcourt’s Science on Screen. Playing Tuesday.

The Encampments (Dirs. Kei Pritsker and Michael T. Workman) It’s time for that obligatory sanctimonious doc about campus protests. Now playing at The Belcourt
