The latest releases and special screenings hitting Music City this week. For a complete list of upcoming title, check out of 2025 Film Guide.

A Minecraft Movie (Dir. Jared Hess) Jack Black and Jason Mamoa star in a live-action adaptation of the juggernaut video game from the director of Napoleon Dynamite. Seems like it would have been a great idea in 2011. Now playing in theaters.

Hell of a Summer (Dirs. Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk) One of the Stranger Things kids co-writes/directs/stars in this tongue-in-cheek slasher tale set at a summer camp run by a twentysomething with a mad case of arrested development. Now playing in theaters.

The Friend (Dirs. Scott McGehee and David Siegel) When a writer in crisis (Naomi Watts) adopts the dog of her mentor (Bill Murray) after his sudden death, her bond with the animal pushes her to get onto the second act of her life in a worthy, if more indie, successor to Marley & Me. Now playing in theaters.

SNL Cinematic Universe The Belcourt celebrates a half century of Saturday Night Live with a series of sketch spinoffs and comedy classics starring some of the show’s most successful alums. Breakouts like Ghostbusters, Wayne’s World,  and Beverly Hills Cop rub shoulders with undervalued gems Hot Rod and MacGruber. Festivities kick off with a screening of Jason Reitman’s recent docudrama Saturday Night and Thank You Very Much, a new documentary about the enigmatic Andy Kaufman. Note: This Saturday also features the seminar, Ladies and Gentlemen, Jim Pitt: A Conversation About Booking Music at SNL, Conan & Kimmel.

Freaky Tales (Dirs. Ryan Fleck and Anna Bowden) “An NBA star, a corrupt cop, a female rap duo, teenage punks, neo-Nazis and a debt collector embark on a collision course in 1987 Oakland, Calif.” With Tom Hanks and Pedro Pascal. Now playing at AMC Thoroughbred 20 and Regal Opry Mills 20.

The Ballad of Wallis Island (Dir. James Griffiths) A lottery winner tries to reunite his favorite musical duo after their divorce in this joyous indie starring Carey Mulligan. Now playing at the Belcourt.

Grand Tour (Dir. Miguel Gomes) The latest from Portugal’s greatest auteur weaves documentary bits and grandiose landscapes in a tale of a diplomat who gets cold feet days before his wedding. Now playing at the Belcourt

The Luckiest Man in America (Dir. Samir Oliveros) Paul Walter Hauser stars as the man who beat the 80s game show Press Your Luck by noticing the show’s use of light patterns and went on to become the nation’s get-rich-quick guru. Now playing in theaters.

The Chosen: Last Supper America’s favorite crowdsourced show about Jesus kicks off its 5th season with round two of this bigscreen engagement. Now playing in theaters

Screamboat (Dir. Steven LeMorte) Now that Disney’s “Steamboat Willie” is public domain, it gets its own crappy horror-comedy ripoff. Now playing in theaters.

The Martial Artist (Dir. Shaz Khan) The rise, fall, and resurrection of an MMA fighter. Now playing in theaters.

Parvulos: Children of the Apocalypse (Dir. Isaac Ezban) Three brothers hiding out from a dystopian apocalypse harbor a dark secret in the basement. In Spanish with English subtitles. Now playing in theaters

The Grove (Acoryé White) A soldier taking an experimental treatment for PTSD becomes a feral monster. Now playing at AMC Thoroughbred 20.

Bolly/Tolly/Kolly/Lollywood and Other Special Presentations of Asian and Middle Eastern Imports.
